Numerical Investigation of the Application of Miller Cycle and Low-Carbon Fuels to Increase Diesel Engine Efficiency and Reduce Emissions

In this paper, validated simulations using Ricardo WAVE have been performed to investigate the effect of Miller cycle and low-carbon fuels on performance (power, torque, BTE BSFC) emissions a diesel engine. The results show that increased (larger deviation advanced or retarded intake valve closing from standard time) will decrease NOx, CO HC emissions, slightly improve brake thermal efficiency (BTE) specific fuel consumption (BSFC) with slight loss in engine increase soot emissions. An running B0 (diesel 0% Biodiesel blend) −18% has reduction NOx 9% 4.3% 1.6% power at rated speed. Using low carbon drastically reduces reduced BSFC. When used conjunction, an improved both optimal demonstrate B60 (60% −8% contributes 1.5% improvement power, 1.2% BTE, 13.3% 38.5% CO, 8.9% HC, 33.0% cost 6.0% it is easy way reduce by combining fuels.
